  • Bleed: Small extra area on the outside edge of a page that allows for trim. Printing that runs into this area. Also called “trim area”.
  • Camera-Ready Art/Camera Copy: Final mechanical or layout, including finished artwork, that is ready to be photographed for platemaking in preparation for printing.
  • Cancellation Fee: When a project is terminated or not used by the client for reasons outside the artist’s control, this fee is paid as compensation for the artist’s or studio’s effort in developing the illustration or design. Also sometimes called a “kill fee”.
  • Clip Art : Public domain line art specifically designed for royalty-free reuse.
  • Collateral: Materials created to support or reinforce a design or promotional concept.
  • Color Map/Palette: Synonym for the range of colors from which a computer artist/operator chooses the particular colors used in an individual image.
  • Commission: (N) Percentage of a fee paid by an artist to an artist′s agent or gallery for service provided or business transacted. (V) The act of giving an artist an assignment to create a work of art.
